United States Air Force Museum and IMAX Theatre
Ohio's #1 free tourist attention. Over a million visitors tour the three buildings of the complex annually, to see nearly 300 aircraft, missiles and thousands of aviation artifacts. There is a gift shop, bookstore and model shop and café. Admission and parking are free. In addition the museum has 500 seat IMAX theatre. This theater contains a giant six story screen which enables the audience to fell as if they are part of the action. Admission charges to the theater only. USS Bowfin Submarine Museum & Park
USS Bowfin Submarine Museum & Park's mission is to restore and preserve the WWII submarine USS Bowfin (SS-287). Bowfin Park's parent organization the Pacific Fleet Submarine Memorial Association (PFSMA) is a non profit group that receives no federal, state or local funding. All restoration, preservation and operation effort are funded through admissions. Gift Shop Sales and donations.
USS Bowfin (SS-287) was launched on 7 December 1942 and nicknamed the "Pearl Harbor Avenger." She completed nine successful war patrols and earned the Presidential Unit Citation and the Navy Unit Commendation. In 1986 she was designated a National Historic Landmark. BOWFIN was acquired from the Navy in 1979 and opened to the public for tours in 1981. A walkman-style headset narrates the tour as visitors explore on board this historic WWII submarine, one of only 15 U.S. WWII submarines still in existence today.
THE MUSEUM exhibits an impressive collection of submarine-related artifacts such as submarine photographs, battleflags, original recruiting posters, submarine models, and weapons systems all illustrating the history of the U.S. Submarine service. The Museum collection also includes a cutaway mockup of a Poseideon C-3 missiles, the only one its kind to be on public display, which allow visitors to examine the inner workings of a missile. Located inside of the Museum, the mini-theater, which seats approximately 40 visitors, features submarine-related videos. There are also several outdoor exhibits. Including the conning lower of USS Patche (SS-384) and a rare kaiten or a Japanese suicide torpedo. Archives and Library are open to the public by appointment.
