Our national award-winning museum is all about Sherman County and our history and community. We tell the stories of Rural Living when the county was young, Military Room which is a special section of the museum showing our great sense of pride for the men and women who gave of themselves during times of conflict. 3 Interpretive Exhibits: Oregon Trails, Rails and Roads in Sherman County, Wheat through the Ages, and Cultivation, Conservation, & Clothespins (no we do not have a clothespin display just used that word to represent the farm house & farm life of that era). Sherman County Journal: Paper, Ink & Presses, which is the full layout of printing presses and what was used to print our local newspaper. New this year is our exhibit of Renewable Energy in Sherman County. We have also been promoting community participation with our Community Collection Show Case, which spotlights a community member’s collection and have it on display here in the museum. For 2023, if you like rocks, you will love to see this Biggs Picture Jasper collection collaborated by community members and their polished and stunning collection that is more than just rocks, and you might learn a bit too!
The Sherman County Historical Museum also has outstanding volunteers that are dedicated and committed to the success of our museum and would love to have you join our team that greets visitors and travelers as a Host in our museum lobby.
The Museum Store supports the talented local vendors we have in our community and we love to see people shop local! You will find lots of quality one of kind treasures for purchase and if you are SCHM member you get a 10%!
The Museum lobby is also the county Visitor Center providing free travel information for all those that stop in looking for what to do in our part of Oregon and our community!
